Having trouble committing murder? Try one of these suggested marks:
Ilend Vonius, whom you meet right after you enter Oblivion in Breaking the Siege of Kvatch. You can't be caught murdering him, and he tends to die before you close the Oblivion Gate, anyway...
Completing The Gray Prince Quest (Arena Guild) and killing Agronak gro-Malog in the Grand Championship Match will attract the attention of the Dark Brotherhood (you killed him in cold blood). Although you have to fight your way through the Arena AND complete the Gray Prince Quest first. However, there is a glitch where you may attain a murder bounty of 1000 septims when killing the Gray Prince.
Your Adoring Fan - One of the easiest bounty-free murders by far if you've completed the Arena quests without completing the Origin of the Gray Prince quest. He's quite easy to kill, he's not involved in any quests, and, if you're that upset about killing him, he respawns usually in less than a game-week.
Complete the Mephala quest - you will receive a quest to murder two people (you must be level 15+).
The Skooma Den in Bravil - The four inhabitants can be easily killed with one strike while they sleep, without their sleeping neighbors waking up. They don't add much to the game, so taking out one won't hurt much. As a little bonus every inhabitant has some skooma with him; at least twenty bottles that won't be marked as stolen (several hundred gold total). You can immediately use a bed here to sleep and be visited by Lucien Lachance. The only drawback is that the Skooma Den is locked with a hard lock the whole day.
The Cheydinhal Chapel Undercroft Guard - After completing the Thieves' Guild quest The Elven Maiden, you can kill the guard in the Chapel Undercroft and take her set of chainmail armor. For more information, see The Elven Maiden Notes.
Glarthir - During the Paranoia quest in Skingrad, refuse to murder the people on his List of Death. He will then resolve to murder them himself. Kill him while you are both still standing behind the chapel, so there is almost no chance of attracting a bounty.
Faustina Cartia - leader of the all-female gang in The Siren's Deception quest in Anvil attacks you in a far-off farmhouse. After killing the rest of the gang, the Watch enters and excuses you for having killed her since you were part of their sting operation. You get no bounty, clear off another quest, and get noticed by the Dark Brotherhood all at the same time.
Arnora Auria - one of the thieves in the Two Sides of the Coin quest in Bruma becomes a "mark" when Jorundr asks you to kill her for him. You should be able to murder her in cold blood without attracting the guards' attention.
K'Sharr during The Stone of St. Alessia- After talking to Cirroc, follow the bandits. K'Sharr is the only one left. After talking to him a second time, he will tell you to leave him alone. He is a very easy kill and you will not receive a bounty.
Falcar - the mage with the Colossal Black Soul Gem in Silorn can be killed as an innocent if you find him in the ruins, hide and wait for him to calm down, and then stealth attack him.
Odiil Brothers: During the goblin attacks in The Killing Field quest, you can kill one of the Odiil brothers (Antus or Rallus), and the goblins will be blamed. Your quest reward will be less, but at least you got a bounty-free mark.
Honditar, an Altmer who lives in a shack west of the North Country Stables which is south of Chorrol, is always an easy kill. Even at level one, as long as you do not let him kill you, he is easy to put down, and because of the location of his house, it will never be counted as murder. However, he is only there at night. During the day he is in Chorrol. Note, however, he is an advanced trainer in athletics.
Another good choice is to kill the people who become Mythic Dawn agents before that particular quest is activated. Tanasa Arano and Tolisi Girith are both servants and Riverview in Cheydinhal, and they will become Mythic Dawn agents and attack you later on.
Wilhelm The Worm: Wilhelm is not related to any questline and provides no services throughout the game. And because Wilhelm lives in the warehouse just outside Anvil near the ships you can approach and murder him in his sleep. He is not a strong character either, so it is quite easy to take him out. His bedroom is upstairs in the left corner. Be sure to kill him in two or more swings however, because if you kill him instantly he will be dead by the time he realizes you attacked him and if he is not aware then neither is the Brotherhood.
Aelwin Merowald - He is a fisherman who lives in Weye, just outside the west entrance to the Imperial City. Do the quest he gives first and after you finish it, just kill him with a sneak attack. Not only will you gain the reward from his quest, but you will also get the invite to the Dark Brotherhood. As an added 'flavor', you can loot his dead corpse for a key that opens a chest in his house, and steal his life savings. Now that's evil!
A great place to make a kill, not get caught, and sleep all in one place is the Abandoned Shack, near the shore at the Imperial City Waterfront. Make sure that the person you kill is not a beggar if you are in the Thieves Guild as this will get you thrown out.
You can sometimes get away with a kill in a small village with a spell that damages on touch.
Try walking on random paths outside of cities. There are normally some drifters who make easy targets.
Killing unnamed guards may be the best option for someone who does not want to risk affecting an unrelated quest or who already has a bounty on their heads.
Killing an Orc Adventurer also counts as murder. As they are two levels below the player and always encountered in remote locations they make good victims.
Some enemy NPCs will try to talk to the hero before attacking (e.g. Umbra). If you kill them with sneak attacks before they speak to you, this may be considered as murder and trigger an invitation without gaining a bounty.
If you don't want to gain the Infamy for the Dark Brotherhood quests, you can use the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal when you report back to the mission giver and your Gray Fox alter-ego will gain the Infamy instead. When you do the Dead Drop quests, make sure you are wearing the Cowl BEFORE you kill the person and finish the quest.
Dorian is a Redguard citizen of the Talos Plaza District. He is a excellent target in that you don't lose any services or quest options, get a bed to sleep in right after, and if you are lucky enough to not have installed the current patches, you may take advantage of his infinite gold glitch by continuously looting gold from his corpse until you have however much you want, ranging into the tens of thousands if you wish.
The few beggars each city in Cyrodiil includes make great marks so long as you are not simultaneously a part of the Thieves Guild, in which case you will be expelled and have to pay up about a thousand gold to return. They are mostly useless, annoying, and very easy to kill in that they sleep out in the open without locked doors, dont wear armor, arent armed and wont fight back with any effectiveness.
Residents of Hackdirt make excellent targets for murder that you want to get away with. Just sneak into the town at night and kill one of them- it doesnt hurt your game much, they add little.
Lazare Milvan is a wealthy Breton nobleman in Skingrad. However, for one reason or another he is entirely irrelevant. No quests seem to involve him, he doesn't offer any services, and finally even the dialogue he provides does not reach normal character levels, there is no rumors discussion with him, for example.
