Diplomacy
Keeping In Touch:
So, now you have a country of your own. Great! Good for you! Now it’s time to do something with it. Hopefully, you’ve got some idea of who you’re contending with, and it may be in your best interest to keep them close, or to push them away. And you can do this several different ways. Okay, I lied. You can only do it one way; namely, making a negotiation topic in the Diplomacy board.
Making Your Negotiation Topic:
These topics are primarily used for communication between your country and another. Remember: only two countries to a topic! These negotiations can be used to establish and uphold a relationship between two countries - whichever way that relationship might sway - or to make declarations. To create your negotiation topic, simply click the “new thread,” button and title it according to the countries involved. Then, address the other country and make a proposition or a declaration. Afterward, the second country should reply, being sure to make it’s meaning clear, so as to avoid confusion and unnecessary posts. In the end, it should look something like this:
Bob’s Place/Dillon-Town Negotiation
Bob’s Place: Would you like to ally with me, oh, brave peoples of Dillon-Town?
Dillon-Town: No, not really. I don’t want to be allies with you, Bob’s Place.
Bob’s Place: Then I declare war upon, you, oh, cowardly peoples of Dillon-Town!
Dillon-Town: Then I’ll see you in . . . Well, in the War board, I guess.
Viola! What a negotiation, no? But it doesn’t end there! If another kingdom wishes to declare war upon you, you can always offer to pay a tribute to them. A tribute is a payment made to a country in exchange for peace. And there are hundreds of other things you could do, too! You could offer to attack an enemy country in exchange for gold, offer services to a country for an alliance or gold, or just talk politics. That last part is especially fun if you get into character! And still the list goes on; looking for a bit of extra gold? Why not offer trade rights to a friendly country? Trade is beneficial to both countries involved, and can be used to strengthen alliances or even prevent war. If both countries agree to trade rights - which, I assure you, you’ll find plenty who will - then simply make a topic on the transactions board stating that you would like to initiate trade with a country, and two hundered gold pieces will be presented to both countries after the second country publicly accepts. And you may end up needing as much trade as you can get. In fact, should a country ever drop below the 350 gold mark, their country may be at risk. Hopefully, this will never happen to you. But if it does, you should immediately seek a protectorate kingdom. This will ensure that your country will not be destroyed. To become a vassal kingdom, one must first find a suitable protectorate. To do this, simply make a negotiation topic with a title such as: Dillon-Town: Looking for Protectorate. Then, just wait for a reply. Of course, the protecting country may desire a small payment for their troubles, in which case, a suitable (and reasonable) payment may be decided upon. Please, nothing over five hundred gold. While a kingdom is a vassal, it may not attack another country, nor may it be attacked. However, it may still interact and trade with other countries. A kingdom may regain independence only after it has fulfilled its obligations toward it’s protectorate kingdom AND has over 350 gold. If a country is a vassal, they must announce it in their kingdom’s topic.
After a negotiation has been resolved, the topic should be kept open for further use, in case one of the countries wishes to attempt a new negotiation with the other. This is done to prevent clutter on the boards, and to make it easier to find the topic you are looking for. Your compliance is appreciated. Upon agreement of any transaction, a topic should be created in the transaction board containing the details of the transaction. See the transactions guide for more details.. Please, keep your negotiations friendly and follow all the rules of the forum. Remember to check back often to keep track of negotiations. Thank you, and enjoy!
